Beautiful dolls, made entirely in Europe. Their features resemble children, they look realistic and sweet and they do not wear make-up.
When I was a little girl I loved fashion dolls. I was attracted to them because they could become anything: you changed their clothes and they transformed from princess into pediatrician, from rock star into school teacher…
Now, as a grown-up and a mother myself, I am more conscious about the body image that a doll can transmit to the one who plays with it. I prefer one without exaggerated sexual attributes and heavy make-up. Actually, I came across these dolls first when I was looking for a suitable one for my child to play with. I have a little boy who loves Mairi Hedderwick’s Katie Morag books. Naturally, he wanted a Katie Morag doll to re-enact the stories with. So I started to search for a mischivous looking redhead with green eyes. And what I have found? Meet our Katie Morag:
I still owe her a proper blue on white Fair Isle jumper and a green checkered skirt…
She is from the Amigas range of the Paola Reina factory. These beautiful, high quality dolls are made in Spain by a long-standing, family owned doll-making company. Their unique beauty makes them collectors’ items, while they are also completely safe and suitable for little hands to play with (being made from pthalate-free vinyl). Their size is perfect: 13 inches (32 cms) tall, with much more realistic body proportions than the average fashion doll. They are small enough to travel everywhere easily with their little owner, but big enough to put on pretty and elaborate clothes. And their ’age’ is closer to their future owners’, too.
The dolls that you find on this website wear clothes that were hand-made by me here, in Co. Wicklow, Ireland. I try to use natural materials and fibres for these garments, and organic – whenever possible.
