Hi My name is Suzy

I have always found it difficult to talk about myself. How can one sum up one’s essence in a limited amount of time and word count? I am a rather withdrawn, quiet, introverted person who makes friends for life. I enjoy crafts and have a special interest in the old ways things were made and done. Apart from sewing and knitting I am interested in things like basket weaving and because I was given a beautiful, old spinning wheel, I got into wool processing (cleaning, carding, spinning, dyeing etc.) recently.

I have a degree at primary school teaching and library studies. I believe it is important to teach our children some handy skills like basic stitching and knitting, not just because they are useful, but because they are fun, too!

I believe in being kind to each other and living in harmony with our Mother Earth. I try to reuse and repurpose wherever possible.

My sewing corner

  • About a square meter of space that is dedicated for the sewing mess and can be left to come back to it later, plus a good-sized table where you can spread out your materials temporarily. An ironing board is optional, but useful.

  • I use a bigger wooden bowl to hold all the small things that I need for the current project: the selected ribbons, buttons, appliqués, you name it. This way they are there and ready, and I do not have to go digging in the cupboard for them one by one.

  • I also have a smaller bowl to hold the rubbish: mainly cut-off ends of threads and little pieces of leftover materials. Some crafters just throw them on the floor and clean up at the end of the day, but I prefer it tidy all the time.
